-Ulka no chodź no, kupię ci coś za 5 zł w kiosku...
przyjechali! Jasiek i Franek cały czas spędzali razem.

In August,
we managed to stop time for a while. Our parents took Jasiu to Kamien Pomorski,
a coastal city where our grandmother lives. The city of our moms childhood, and
our childhood as well. Since we can remember the major point of every vacation
was a month spent with our grandparents at the seaside. It was always great and we never got bored
even though that we didn’t even have the Internet back then 😉 Since the early morning our grandfather Adam
was preparing breakfast for everyone in the kitchen. In the background we could
hear the “Summer with radio” radio show. You could hear seagulls squawks through the
open windows. After the breakfast we always went for a walk and shopping in the
city. Sometimes to the market where there was always everything we, children
wanted to have. Bakery, to get a fresh,
sometimes still warm bread. Fish shop, to get a fresh fish straight from the
fishermen, who’s fish boats we could see rocking on the water in the tiny harbor
in the lagoon nearby. We always went to get dumplings from the “Magellan” restaurant
nearby, and of course to the confectionery to get Stefanka- a 100-layer cake dipped
in chocolate. Stefanka was a must when our grandparents had a coffee break,
every day around noon 😊, just after the walk. Sometimes we
went with our grandmother to Dziwnowek to the beach, that was 8 km away, and
then we had to put on like 5 jumpers in the middle of the summer because “ it’s
so windy from the sea”. aAnd in the evening, just before or just after sunset, another walk, a very loooong one, along the
medieval city walls, along the shore of the lagoon. We couldn’t go nearer to
the shore than 5 meters because “we will fall down to the water” or “ the swans
will bite us”. We went until the city was over, that is we could touch the sign
with crossed Kamien Pomorski name :D For us with tiny legs (especially mine, exceptionally
short) it was quite a challenge. And of course we had pain in our feet. But
that was not a problem at all, because our grandparents were professional
masseurs that moved to Kamien Pomorski just after work to work for the local
SPA. And their stories, about everything. About how it was when mom was a
little girl. About the painting in the golden frame they got from a real countess.
About tiled stove in the living room. About how Kamien Pomorski looked
before.
This place
is like a sanctuary for our family, its easier to relax there, to gather
thoughts 😊
And of
course it’s the place where dad and Jasiu are always gowing for their fishing
adventures. Before Jasiu was born dad
was mostly fishing alone. Sometimes but very rarely me or Natalia went him to sit for hours in that place where there
for sure are loads of fish :D. Most of the times he had to bribe us.
-Ulka come
on, come with me. I’m gonna get you something for 5 zl from the store
-No
-Come on,
10 zl
-No, dad, I
have vacation!
-15 zl
(Here
Natalia wakes up)
-Ok, for 15 I’m
gonna go...
If I
remember well, that time she came back with a sparkling new set of plastic
horses. My tiniest touch on any of the horses caused super loud scream : D
Jasiu, however,
loved going fishing with dad, even when he was just few years old :D
This time
he even managed to persuade Franek’s parents to come to the seaside too, so the
came to Kamien Pomorski a day after Jasiu arrived. They were inseparable for
the whole stay.
And, of
course dad took them fishing too. Franek had no experience but he catched three
roaches while Jasiu only one. But later he was so efficiently tangling the
fishing line and loosing all the hooks that the final result was 20 to 5 for Jasiu
and they were up for a fish feast that evening :D
But the best
time they had at the beach. Jasiu and Franek basically didnät go out from the
water which was amazingly warm. They dug up a massive hole so only Jasius head was
sticking out when he went in there. Pure
happiness!
The next
day brought a heavy wind, around 6-7 in Beaufort scale, so the waves were
pretty high, which meant even more fun at the beach. The weather was great, with
clear skies until beautiful sunset, with a mild breeze from the sea. It was
just a wonderful time!
Then they
had ice cream, then another ice cream, than some games at the arcade.
Unfortunately,
this carefree time is oven now, and Jasiu is at home now, preparing for his New
York trip, already next Tuesday. Flight tickets are ordered, visa is ready and
the hotel booked. Jasiu is flying to the other side of the world to meet doctor
Zacharoulis, who will tell us, what is the next step in Jasius therapy. He will
also perform a very detailed MRI scan not only of Jasius brain, but of the
whole central nervous system. We are all
very afraid and stressed over that, because it will be the first MRI scan since
Jasius diagnosis in may. We all hope, from the bottom of our hearts that we are
up for some good news.
Please keep
Your fingers crossed!
